IUplog has a nice featurelist, but it is disappointing in various performance issues.

Can anybody recommend a hosted blogging system?

Lamina rerelease Email this post  Print this post

Yesterday, a bug fix release of Lamina went online. Lamina is a library allowing use of SDL/Pygame raster operations within OpenGL displays. This can be very useful with respect to GUI libraries.

OpenGL outlining Email this post  Print this post

A nice technique for preventing important visual details from fading into the distance is to outline them using point or line entities.

Audio Person Email this post  Print this post

We have a new member on the Pitcher's Duel development team. Keith has offered to do audio editing, to produce a few different bat sounds for different contact types.

Pygame GUIs Email this post  Print this post

Now that my Pygame GUI comparison is AFAIK complete, and because this comparison accounts for a significant amount of blog traffic, I am providing a consolidated index to all of the blog posts here regarding Pygame GUIs.

Play-testing Results Email this post  Print this post

Summary of the results of my request for Batter Demo playtesters: The hittability, to my relief, is much improved, but various lesser playability issues remain.

Help Wanted (Volunteer) Email this post  Print this post

The Pitchers Duel project is creating a physical-skill based game simulating the sport of Baseball. We need some specialized support, in 3d graphics, and in audio editing.

Lamina 0.1.1 description Email this post  Print this post

Pygame has support for OpenGL, and also has good GUI libraries, but does not really allow both at once. Lamina is a library to facilitate using GUIs in OpenGL displays. It provides a surface attribute for raster drawing, and a display method for rendering in OpenGL.

My release last week of the Lamina library seems to have drawn some interest, so here is an improved, cleaned up, better documented version.

Play-testing Feedback Email this post  Print this post

A couple of days ago, I put a demo online of the batter interface for Pitcher's Duel, and asked people to spend a few minutes testing it, and reporting to me how it worked for them.

The demo has been downloaded a couple dozen times, but *nobody* has said anything. If you were one of those folks that downloaded and tested it, I need to hear from you. That is the whole point of trying the demo.

The demo is less than a complete game, and isn't entertaining for more than a few minutes. If you do not benefit the project by reporting how it worked, then the whole exercise of downloading and testing was a waste.

Play-testing Pitchers Duel Email this post  Print this post

A baseball simulation game needs play-testers. If you play computer video games under Windows, and have a half hour or so to spare assisting a fledgling open-source game project, I would appreciate your help.

PGU GUI Example Updated Email this post  Print this post

Upgrading the PGU library to version 0.10.2 involved some changes to the example, but also enabled some features not previously possible.
